Period Is Late After Possible Contact With Precum… Am I Pregnant?
I know this may sound hard to do right now, but I need you to take a deep breath.
The chances are that you are not pregnant. And believe it or not, stressing over the late period can actually be part of the reason that you’re not getting your period.
The chances of getting pregnant from that small amount of contact with precum is low. Really low.
There isn’t always sperm in precum (you can read more about precum here). And given that he only had a slight touch there was probably very little sperm he may have come into contact with. That’s assuming he even came into contact at all. Just because he touched his penis doesn’t mean he came into contact with precum.
Combine this with the fact that sperm doesn’t live forever outside the body. Once the cum dries up the sperm usually dies. I can’t give you a definite timeline for that. But if it had been 10 – 20 minutes, I’m guessing if there were any sperm there, most of it would have died.
So given everything you’ve told me, I would say the chances of you being pregnant are really, really low.
Since it’s been a month since this happened, the odds are that the pregnancy test you took is accurate. A lot of times people take a pregnancy test right after something like this happens. And pregnancy does not happen immediately.
When people fear pregnancy from contact with sperm, either through something like this, or sex without a condom, or the condom breaking, I tell them to wait at least 14 days to take a pregnancy test. At that point, the test might be accurate. Might be… but not 100%. I tell them 2 weeks knowing that that can feel like a really long time to wait when you’re worried. Taking the test at 2 weeks can help people feel like they’re closer to an answer.
If the test is negative at 14 days, I tell them to wait 1 more week and test again. At that point, most home pregnancy tests are accurate.
But you’ve already waited 3 weeks, so if the test is coming back negative then it’s probably negative.
So why the delayed period?
There could be any number of medical reasons that have nothing to do with actually being pregnant. And I’m not going to list them because I don’t want you to start stressing about them.
Because stress in and of itself could cause your period to be delayed. So try and not think about it (I know, I know, easier said than done!).
A period isn’t really considered late until it’s 7 days after you expected it. So if you normally get your period on January 7, I would say wait until January 14. At that point, if you still didn’t get your period, you can test again. I would also suggest following up with a health care professional.

Until next time, be safe, and have fun!
