Recommendations For Anal Toys For A Woman Using Them For The First Time?
First time sex toy shopping can be overwhelming for a lot of people!
The first thing that I tell anyone who’s looking to buy a toy for anal, regardless of gender, is to make sure it has a flared base.
Check out this photo:
See how the base is wider than the toy? That’s what’s called a flared base. And a flared base is going to stop it from getting stuck up your butt. Which is a very real thing that can happen. If it does happen, that means going to the ER or other health care provider to help you get it out.
The other thing I tell people when buying a sex toy that’s going to go into your body is to choose something that’s made of material that’s safe for the body.
Sex toys aren’t exactly regulated, so there are products that are on the market that aren’t great for your health.
I tell people to look for toys made of silicone or ABS plastic (hard plastic). There are other things that can be safe, like metal or glass.
What you choose comes down to comfort with how it feels, but I would avoid anything porous. Things like jelly rubber, which are often more affordable, but are also not great for the body. Because they’re porous, it’s easier for them to hold on to bacteria which can cause infection.
Okay, so you’re set on flared based and body safe material. Now what else to look for?
Now it’s all up to you. Things like size, shape, and color, those are all about what you want.
If you’re new to anal sex you might want to start with something smaller. Choosing one that’s shorter but has a tapered end, like the one in this picture, might be a good start.
By the way, if you’re turned off by the photo because you don’t like the colors then that’s a good thing to be aware of. Find a sex toy that appeals to you visually. Or at least doesn’t turn you off when you look at it. This is all about you and what you like.
How do you feel about vibration? If that sounds like a great option then consider getting a vibrating anal sex toy. If you think you might be into it, but maybe not yet, you can always get one with vibration and not turn it on until you’re ready.
Found a toy you think you’ll like? Good. Now you have one more step. Find a lube that works with the material of the toy. Lube is absolutely recommended for anal play, especially if you’re new to it.
But not all lubes are a good fit for all toys. If you have a silicone toy, you want to avoid silicone lube. I don’t want to get too far down the lube rabbit hole, but if you want to know more about the different types of lubes, just ask!
No matter what you get, remember to take care of it well. Wash it and dry it properly to avoid any risk of infection.
Until next time, be safe, and have fun!
