Why Do Guys Worry About Penis Size? (A Penis Is A Penis, We Love it)

Guys worry about penis size because we tell them that penis size is important.

As a society we talk about how penis size can mean a lot of things - how manly he is, or how good a lover he is, when really penis size has nothing to do with those things.

But many men do worry about it. We make jokes about how size doesn’t matter, when the underlying message is that it does.

We post articles about how to guess how big a men’s penis is just by looking at his feet, or his hands, or how he sits.

So does size matter? The honest answer is maybe.

When we talk to partners some tell us it does matter, while others say no.

For some partners there are many things that are more important than penis size – communication style, how much he focuses on his partner’s pleasure, being open to trying new things, confidence… it really varies from person to person.

And yet, with all that, we still center conversations around size.

This is the point where I would give the numbers on what we know about “average” size and I have to admit I’m hesitant, because no matter how many times I say things like “these numbers are based on self-report” or “people lie!” someone out there is still going to judge themselves based on the numbers.

So here goes, but first….  most studies are based on self-report!

And oh yeah, people exaggerate!

For an erect penis, the average length is between 5 and 5.5 inches, about the length of the iPhone 7.

The average girth is around 4.5 inches in circumference, about the same as the cardboard tube that holds toilet paper.

Which brings me to this point, there is one absolute time where size matters, and that’s for knowing what size condoms to get. Using a condom that’s the wrong size can result in slippage and breakage.

If you can stick a roll of toilet paper on your penis and it’s a comfortable fit, then your standard condom will work for you.

If your penis is wider than that then you need a larger size condom. If your penis girth is a lot smaller than the toilet paper tube, then you need a snugger fit.

But going back to guys focusing on penis size, it doesn’t really matter how many times I point out that people exaggerate on self-report studies about size, and that partners may not care.

Because if the size of a guy’s penis matters to him, then it matters, because it can impact how he feels about himself, and self-image and self-confidence are important.

So let me just remind everyone one more time that when it comes to size that’s not the only thing to think about. Because even if you’re average, or above average, that’s doesn’t mean that you’re a good lover, especially since size doesn’t matter to everyone.

How do you know what matters to your partner? Ask them!

Until next time, be safe and have fun!
