What does the doctor do if you're uncircumcised? And does she care if you get a boner during it?
A check of your privates during a physical exam usually involves a health care professional checking both penis and your testicles.
When they’re looking at your penis, they’re looking for things that seem out of the ordinary. Things like rashes, herpes, or warts. They’ll also keep an eye out for discoloration. They’ll feel the penis to see if there’s any tenderness. They’ll also look to see if there’s any discharge. If there is discharge, they make take a sample for a culture.
They may do more specific things during the exam. What those are will depend on whether you mention any issues or concerns you were having.
For the testicles, they’re going to look at the scrotum from all sides. Then they’re going to feel the scrotum to check on the structures within.
If you’re uncircumcised then the only change to this procedure is that they’re going to have to have the foreskin moved back. Sometimes they’ll do it for you. Or they can ask you to do it yourself.
Now for the second part of the question. It’s perfectly normal for men to get a boner when having this kind of exam done. Someone is, after all, touching your genitals.
It’s also perfectly normal to get erections during other types of medical exams, like prostate checks and colonoscopies.
But keep in mind that health care professionals are just that, professionals. They understand how bodies work and that getting an erection during a genital exam can happen. Your doctor shouldn’t care and probably won’t even mention it happening.
Until next time, be safe and have fun!
