On The TV Show Friends, What Are The 7 Eroginous Zones Monica Is Referring To?
I have to be honest and say that I never really watched Friends. So, I found the clip on erogenous zones. If you haven’t seen it, or want to rewatch it, it’s season 4 episode 11 “The One with Phoebe's Uterus.”
Before I get into explaining the 7 places, I want to actually define what an erogenous zone is because not everybody may know.
An erogenous zone is an area of the body that's highly susceptible to touch and can be highly arousable during sexual stimulation. Keep in mind that it doesn't mean that always touching that area is going to lead to arousal.
There are primary erogenous zones and secondary erogenous zones,
A primary erogenous zone tends to have a lot of nerve endings. They're also the areas of the body that most people would respond well to if you started licking, or touching, or rubbing it in a sexual way.
Secondary erogenous zones are not ones that are not usually sexual for most people. They don’t necessarily have a lot of nerve endings. But through experience, they've become pretty sexual to that person.
Let me give you an example. If your partner always stroked your wrist in a way that let you know that they were getting turned on, and they would spend a lot of time kissing, touching or caressing it, that that wrist could become a secondary erogenous zone for you.
Thanks to Reddit, which can sometimes be really helpful and sometimes really not, there's actually drawings of the human body and what they think that Monica is referencing to for the erogenous zones. I'm not sure if those are all completely accurate, though some of them seem to be!
What I can tell you is that we generally think of seven different erogenous zones. These are not in a specific order, except that I’m starting at the top of the body and working my way down.
The first is the lips and the mouth.
The second are the ears. This is a great time to remind you that not everyone loves everything when it comes to erogenous zones. Some people may enjoy a gentle nibble on the ear lobe. But they may get really turned off by you sticking your tongue in their ear.
The third is the neck.
Fourth is breast and nipples. And this is for people of all sexes. While men might not have a lot of breast tissue, they may very much enjoy when their nipples become part of sex play.
A note here about trauma. While it might technically fall into the category of an erogenous zone, it might not be that for all people. If someone has had surgery on their breasts, they may have limited sensation. Or they may want to avoid having that area touched at all. This is why it’s really important to pay attention to how your partner is reacting to touch on different parts of their body.
The fifth is the butt. Think more butt cheeks rather than touching the anus, though so people do enjoy that.
Sixth is the inner thighs.
And seventh is the genitals. Which sounds pretty straightforward, but where exactly on the genitals feels good can vary from person to person. From Monica’s reaction in the episode, I would think 7 was more about the clitoris than vaginal penetration.
And that’s it, all 7.
But please remember that its totally normal to not like all 7 of these areas being touched.
And if you’ve got a personal 8 – 15, I would encourage you to share that information with your partner.
Until next time, be safe, and have fun!
