Is Anal Sex Good?
This is a difficult question to answer. Mostly because I'm not sure what you mean by “good.”
If you mean does it feel good, that's going to be a subjective answer. For some people on the receptive end of anal sex, they enjoy it. For others, not so much.
We can look at whether or not its “good” from a health perspective. As long as you’re not switching from anal to vaginal without cleaning whatever it is that was being used for penetration, either fingers, or a sex toy, or a penis, then there isn’t a health risk from that. If you’re using a condom, make sure to change that too!
If you're using lube, then that’s going to help make it better. Most people prefer a silicone or oil base lube for anal sex. But if you’re using a condom, you shouldn’t use an oil-based lube.
You can use a water-based lube. While it’s safe to use with a condom, it won’t provide as much cushioning feeling as a silicone lube. If you use a water-based lube for anal sex make sure you’re using one that has the right pH for anal play.
Sticking with the health aspects there is no risk of pregnancy from anal sex. Though there can still be a risk of STIs even if you’re using a condom. Same is true for vaginal sex.
For some couples that don't usually engage in anal sex it can be good because it's different. I know some couples who “save” anal sex for special events. That can help build up the excitement. Which can be good.
For some male/female couples they may use anal sex to play with power dynamics. In these situations, she penetrates him using a sex toy. Which can flip the power script.
I know there are some people who think that engaging in anal sex doesn't “count” for them in terms of losing their virginity. So that might be considered good for them. They feel like they’re staying true to their values but are still able to engage in sex play.
If you're new to anal play it may not feel good when you first start. I would highly suggest easing your way into it. Especially if you’re nervous.
Keep in mind that while it may not feel good the first time, the second time might feel better. With that said, if the first experience was horrible and you hated it, there doesn't have to be a second time!
At the end of the day, in terms of feeling good, only the people involved can answer that question.
Until next time, be safe, and have fun!
